Deposit Refund & Cancellation Policy

Overview

KAISEI / Ship Project collects negotiation deposits through Stripe to confirm buyer intent and allocate concierge resources for a specific vessel listing. This policy explains when deposits may or may not be refunded.

What the Deposit Covers

The standard Service Retainer of USD 1,000 (or the amount shown at checkout) covers negotiation and export support coordination. It secures your position in active negotiations and signals commitment while inspection and documentation are arranged.

The Service Retainer is not the full purchase price of any vessel. Remaining balances, shipping, duties, and closing costs are handled separately under terms agreed between buyer and seller.

General Rule: Non-Refundable

Except as described below, all deposits are non-refundable once payment is successfully processed. This includes situations where:

  • You choose not to proceed after receiving vessel information or inspection access;
  • You decline to purchase for personal, financial, or market reasons;
  • Negotiations end because you and the seller cannot agree on final terms;
  • You fail to respond to concierge communications within a reasonable timeframe.

Exceptions — When a Refund May Be Issued

We may approve a full or partial refund at our discretion in the following cases:

  • The seller is unable to provide the vessel or withdraws the listing before a binding purchase agreement is signed;
  • Material misrepresentation of vessel availability, ownership, or listing status is confirmed by KAISEI / Ship Project;
  • A duplicate deposit was charged in error for the same listing and buyer;
  • Checkout was completed due to a verified technical error on our platform.

Refund decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method via Stripe. Processing times depend on your card issuer and typically take 5–10 business days.

Contact Unlock Hold (Escrow — Phase 2c)

The ¥1,000,000 Contact Unlock Hold (or the amount shown at checkout) is a commitment hold to unlock direct contact between buyer and seller in a chat room. It is not the vessel purchase price.

Under our current Phase 2c service, funding the hold unlocks contact details only. KAISEI does not release these funds to the seller as a purchase payment. Seller payout via Stripe Connect is a separate future phase.

Contact Unlock Holds are generally non-refundable once funded, except where:

  • A duplicate hold was charged in error for the same chat room and buyer;
  • Checkout was completed due to a verified technical error on our platform;
  • We determine, at our discretion, that the hold should be reversed before contact was meaningfully used (e.g., seller withdrawal before any direct communication).

Disputes about vessel condition, price, or sale completion after contact is unlocked are between buyer and seller — not grounds for automatic hold reversal unless covered above.

How to Request a Refund

Contact us at Kaisei.marine.contact@gmail.com with your full name, listing reference, payment confirmation, and reason for the request. We will review and respond within 5 business days.

Chargebacks

If you initiate a chargeback without first contacting us, we reserve the right to dispute the claim and suspend future access to the platform. We encourage direct communication so we can resolve issues promptly.
